Jungle/Drum & Bass Sampler no.2

jungle/drum & bass sampler number two

Birthed from the strata of breakbeat hardcore, Jungle emerged in the UK's underground in the early 90s. Musicians built upon its novel themes during the second half of the decade, giving rise to Drum 'n Bass*.

Casual listeners might miss the distinction, but they embody different vibes:

Jungle often features themes from reggae, dancehall, funk and jazz, with much of its percussion sampled.

Drum 'n Bass, on the other hand leans on synthesized, precise percussion and extremely loud, pronounced basslines. It adopted the upbeat, positive vibes found in popular club music and focusing on a sound whose themes remain popular to this day.

Here's our second playlist of both styles in a mix for intense workouts at the gym.

* I did it again—the playlist says Drum & Bass and the text above reads Drum 'n Bass because the ampersand looks nicer with the art.

Anyways, check out part one of the Jungle/Drum & Bass Sampler no.1 for another 100 minutes of the stuff.

If you're into UK underground music, we also have some Grime playlists you might dig:

If you're looking for something that runs a little longer, check out the Grime Session, which features all of the songs from the above Samplers in a single playlist that runs more than 200 minutes.

Let me know how I did here. Feel free to correct me about mistakes in the origin of any of the styles in the comments below.
