Launch

December 31, 2023

I should have done this sooner.

I've been putting together playlists since we called them mixtapes and a person needed a tape deck and blank media.

I'm as picky about my music as anyone else, but aside from that I spend a lot of time thinking about how we consume it. Personally, when I'm in control, I can divide my listening into two ways; I'm either focused on what I'm listening to, or it's the soundtrack to whatever else I'm doing at the time.

Lolakana is about the latter—playlists for jiujitsu, running either 100 or 200 minutes in length, and to launch, I'm sharing six of the former and three of the latter.

Everything around here will be available on Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube Music & Youtube. Click the covers to head to the posts; I share the track lists and links to playlists there:

80s Session no.1

80s session number one

200 minutes of songs that are awesome for jiujitsu, from 1980 to 1989.

This features a wide variety of genres from the above ten years; the only thing in common is that the songs are all great for jiujitsu (IMHO).

80s Sampler no.1

80s Sampler number one

100 minutes of songs, awesome for jiujitsu, from 1980 to 1989. This is the first child list of 80s Session no.1

80s Sampler no.2

80s sampler number 2

100 minutes of songs, awesome for jiujitsu, from 1980 to 1989. This is the second child list of 80s Session no.1

90s Session no.1

Lolakana extended 90s session number one

200 minutes of songs that are awesome for jiujitsu, from 1990 to 1999

As with the 80s Session, this is a handful of genres from the above decade, with the only thing in common being that I think the songs are great for jiujitsu.

90s Sampler no.1

90s sampler number one

100 minutes of songs, all awesome for jiujitsu, from 1990 to 1999. This is the first child list of the 90s Session no.1 playlist

90s Sampler no.2

90s sampler number 2

100 minutes of songs, all awesome for jiujitsu, from 1990 to 1999. This is the second child list of the 90s Session no.1 playlist

House Session

House Session Lolakana Extended Playlist

200 minutes of house music, awesome for jiujitsu—bet you thought it'd be another decade list!

House music emerged in the early 80s in the Chicago underground club scene when producers started combining disco with a four-on-the-floor beat, becoming mainstream by the late 80s. This list has a variety of songs, same as above—all great for jiujitsu, but with a more narrow focus on House, and songs evolved from and inspired by the genre.
